Microneedling Q&A

What is microneedling?

Nonsurgical microneedling treatment stimulates collagen growth to enhance your appearance. It’s a safe and effective way of rejuvenating your skin without having cosmetic surgery.

Collagen is a form of protein contained in your soft tissues. It strengthens and supports the skin and muscles, keeping them plump and tight. With age, your body’s collagen production declines, resulting in reduced skin elasticity. Fine lines and wrinkles form, your skin starts to sag, and hollows develop.

Microneedling boosts natural collagen production, improving blemishes and making you look younger.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling devices are covered in tiny, short needles that create minute wounds in your skin. The wounds aren’t harmful, and they’re so small you can’t really see them, but they activate your body’s healing abilities, including the collagen-producing systems.

As new collagen grows, your skin tightens, and the underlying tissues get firmer, smoothing out lines and wrinkles.

Microneedling is available on its own or in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP contains growth factors extracted from a blood sample you provide, which boosts microneedling’s effects for faster results. Dr. Geracimos applies the PRP fluid to your skin so it gets into every micro-injury caused by the microneedling device.

What problems can I treat with microneedling?

Because microneedling repairs many kinds of skin damage, it could help you with problems like:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Loose skin
  • Mild scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Stretch marks

ElevateHealth Aesthetics’ microneedling treatments take up to 30 minutes. Your skin might be red, sore, and swollen straight after your treatment, but these side effects should settle down over a few days. Make sure you stay out of the sun during your recovery as your skin becomes more sensitive.

When will I see the results of microneedling?

You might notice some improvement in your skin soon after microneedling treatment. However, it takes several weeks to see the full effects.

This is because it takes time for healing to occur and for your body to produce enough collagen to make a significant difference to your skin. However, the results should last for many months or even a year.
